Information for Urbana Township Residents regarding Upcoming Fire and EMS levy
A 4 mill levy for fire and EMS services will be listed on the ballot this fall as an “Additional” levy.
The new levy will actually replace our current 4 mill levy.
The State of Ohio no longer allows “Replacement” levies.
What is our current fire and EMS levy?
Our current levy is 4 mills and is collecting at 1.75 mills due to growth in township.
Why is a fire and EMS levy necessary?
Changes to fire and EMS services could cause issues with resident’s home insurance as well as potential new resident’s ability to have a mortgage underwritten.
Is the township required to provide fire and EMS?
The township is not required to provide fire and EMS services.
We currently do so based on the current levy and a long-standing partnership with the City of Urbana Fire and EMS,
whose firefighters and EMT’s are among the highest trained in the state.
How much does fire and EMS services cost each resident?
For 2027, the city has notified the township that the cost per resident for coverage will be $154.90 based on a population of 3,138 in the unincorporated areas.
The total to maintain fire and EMS for 2027 is $486,076.62.
How much are we paying for fire and EMS under the current levy?
In 2026, the township will pay the city $363,852.00 for fire and EMS services.
